As many jazz fans know, shows at the Village Vanguard are always advertised outside with hand drawn posters that appear inside the wooden box by the front door.

The tradition began when Morgan Harris, an artist who lived around the corner from the Vanguard, was informally hired by Max Gordon to design the posters in exchange for a small bar tab.  As the bar tab grew, so did Morgan's body of work that spans from the late 1970's through the early 90's.
